Context

Following the completion of FMCI’s Regional Enterprise Innovation Scoping Scheme (REISS) feasibility study into a large-scale Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Research and Development hub at Shannon Airport, FMCI secured funding under Enterprise Ireland’s Smart Regions Enterprise Innovation Scheme to progress the project from concept to a fully costed and engineered planning application.

Building on the scope, timelines, and cost parameters defined during the REISS phase, this project moves the proposed AAM hub into detailed design and regulatory groundwork covering architectural refinement, structural and fire engineering, environmental compliance, and formal Quantity Surveyor costings ahead of submission to Clare County Council.

Aim

This project aims to prepare and submit a comprehensive planning application for Ireland’s first dedicated Advanced Aerial Mobility Research and Development hub, sited at Shannon Airport. Over a 16-week programme, FMCI and its design and engineering partners will:

Refine the AAM hub’s architectural design based on lessons learned during the REISS phase
Develop structural, mechanical, and electrical systems designs
Complete fire engineering studies and a certification review
Carry out an environmental impact assessment
Engage a Quantity Surveyor to produce a detailed breakdown for construction
Compile and submit a full planning application, including all supporting design, engineering, and certification documentation
